Natives of the African plains and woodlands, Ostriches are fascinating creatures. There are several different subspecies which have developed across the continent with the birds varying in size. Ostriches are quick, defensive and powerful and boast the largest eye, relative to the size of their tiny heads, of any land animal.

New to farming in the UK, ostriches are kept for breeding, leather, meat and feathers. They are able to cope well with the climate in this country and require relatively small amounts of land if they are to thrive. However, they are huge birds and can be very aggressive. They are able to run at 40mph and require fencing which is at least 1.7m high! Ostrich farming shouldn’t be entered into on a whim!
