Pet Bird Drinkers for a Bet Winner
Grandfather Wins Big and Orders a Parrot
Joe Brown, a grandfather from Wigan has always enjoyed a flutter. Every Saturday he takes advantage of Betfred’s Scoop6 accumulator and last month this netted him £13,140 from a modest £2 bet. Construction worker Brown loves betting on the horses and on this occasion all six of his picks won to bag him the prize. He was also awarded a free bet with the bookies and Brown won again. This time his prize was £32,471. With a total of £45,611 to spend on whatever he wanted, you would have thought that a luxury holiday or a new car were in order. But no!
The African Grey
Most people who benefit from a big win start thinking about treating themselves to a special luxury or two but not Joe Brown. What he wanted was a new friend. He has decided that some of his windfall should be spent on a parrot. His sister kept a parrot and he has always dreamt of doing the same. In the wake of his win,he marched straight to the local pet shop and placed an order for an African Grey. The pet shop is opposite the betting shop but apparently it does not usually benefit when gamblers win big.
A Cage, Toys, Feeders and Pet Bird Drinkers
The parrot will cost Brown £1000. After he has purchased a cage, toys, , he will still have plenty of his winnings left over. He has said that he will split the money with his family and use some of it to boost the spending money for his forthcoming holiday in Spain. But he doesn’t really enjoy the heat and says that he prefers work! One wonders what he would have done if had won millions on the lottery. Perhaps he would have invested in two parrots and then gone back to work.
Joe Brown has already chosen a name for his new pet in advance of the bird’s arrival. He could have opted for Fred in honour of his win. He might also have chosen Franklin, Red or Librisa as these were the names of three of the horses which helped win him the money. But the parrot will actually be christened Jasper Parrot!
Betfred owner Mr Done commented that "Never in the history of bookmaking has a winner opted to buy a parrot... all the best cheeky Joe!" You never know, Jasper may prove to be adept at picking winners himself.
Olivia, an African Grey at the Nasu Animal Kingdom in Japan is a sporting psychic. The bird successfully predicted the result of all of Japan’s women’s soccer team’s matches in the lead up to the final of the world cup last year. Sadly she slipped a bit when it came to the Olympics this month and predicted that Japan’s men would beat Nigeria but they lost!
