Mealworms are generally considered to be pests but it turns out that they have hidden talents. In 2015, it was discovered that these diminutive little chaps can degrade polystyrene into usable organic matter. The polystyrene doesn’t appear to have a negative impact on the health of the worms. This interesting finding has yet to result in any commercial applications!
