Frequently Asked Questions

Why do pigeons need grit?
Pigeons do not have teeth — grit is stored in the gizzard and acts as a grinding mechanism to break down whole grains and seeds. Without adequate grit, digestion is impaired and nutrient absorption suffers. Offering a mixed grit supplement ensures both fine and coarse particle sizes are available for optimal mechanical digestion.

What is the difference between fine and coarse stomach grit?
Fine grit (maagkiezel fijn) is used for grinding softer grains and seeds; coarse grit (maagkiezel grof) handles harder grains such as maize. Providing both ensures the gizzard can process the full range of ingredients in a pigeon's diet.

Why is charcoal included?
Charcoal has a natural adsorptive capacity, helping to bind and remove toxins and waste products from the digestive tract. It also acts as a natural digestive buffer and is traditionally included in quality grit mixes.

How should I store this product?
Store in a cool, dry place away from moisture. Keep the lid sealed when not in use. Do not allow grit to become wet in the loft as it may spoil.
