Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Mini Gold 4 Mix and Gold 4 Mix?
Both are complete laying feeds for bantams from week 18 with the same Gold 4 nutritional specification, using fine grains and a 2mm laying pellet. Mini Gold 4 Mix uses an even finer grain selection than standard Gold 4 Mix and is intended for the smallest bantam breeds where the finest possible grain size is preferred. If your bantams are of a particularly small or fine-boned breed, Mini Gold 4 Mix may be more suitable.

Why is Gold 4 suitable from week 18?
Week 18 marks the typical transition to the laying phase for most hen and bantam breeds. At this point, nutritional requirements change significantly — calcium demand increases to support eggshell production. Gold 4 Mini Mix is formulated to meet these requirements from the start of laying through the entire production period.

Why is calcium and phosphorus balance important for laying bantams?
Calcium is the primary mineral component of eggshells. Vitamin D3 is required for calcium absorption. Phosphorus must be balanced alongside calcium. Gold 4 Mini Mix is formulated with an optimised calcium–phosphorus–vitamin D3 ratio appropriate for laying bantams.

Can I feed this alongside grain or treats?
Mini Gold 4 Mix is a complete feed providing all the nutrients bantams require. Supplementing with grain or scratch will dilute the nutritional balance. If you do offer additional treats, keep quantities small and ensure Mini Gold 4 Mix remains the primary ration.

How should I store a 20kg sack?
Store in a cool, dry place in a sealed airtight container or bin away from direct sunlight, moisture and pests. Keep sealed between uses to maintain freshness of both the grain and the laying pellets.
