Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Gold 4 Pellets and Gold 4 Mash?
Both are the same complete Gold 4 formulation for laying hens from week 18. The pellet form is compressed into a uniform shape which reduces selective feeding and waste, suits most standard poultry feeders, and is typically preferred for larger flocks or where feeder management is a priority. Mash is a loose ground feed which promotes slower eating. Choice between the two is largely a matter of management preference and feeder type.

Why is Gold 4 suitable from week 18?
Week 18 marks the typical transition to the laying phase for most hen breeds. At this point nutritional requirements change significantly — calcium demand increases substantially to support eggshell production. Gold 4 Pellets is specifically formulated to meet these requirements from the start of laying through the entire production period.

Why is calcium and phosphorus balance important for laying hens?
Calcium is the primary mineral component of eggshells. Vitamin D3 is required for calcium absorption. Phosphorus must be balanced carefully alongside calcium — an excess of available phosphorus can interfere with calcium utilisation. Gold 4 Pellets is formulated with an optimised calcium–phosphorus–vitamin D3 ratio to support consistent eggshell quality.

Can I feed this alongside grain or treats?
Gold 4 Pellets is a complete feed providing all the nutrients laying hens require. Supplementing with grain or scratch will dilute the nutritional balance. If you do offer additional grain or treats, keep quantities small and ensure Gold 4 Pellets remains the primary ration.

How should I store a 20kg sack?
Store in a cool, dry place in a sealed airtight container or bin away from direct sunlight, moisture and pests. Keep sealed between uses to maintain freshness and pellet integrity.
