Warma Chicken Chips Wood Chip Bedding 70 Litres — Virgin Hardwood Ground Cover for Chicken Runs & Poultry Pens
Warma Chicken Chips are the practical, hardwearing ground covering solution for chicken runs and poultry pens. Made from virgin hardwood, these robust wood chips are clean, 100% natural and highly absorbent — absorbing more moisture than other mulches to keep your run drier underfoot. Chip size is approximately 4–32mm, making them too large to be easily scattered or wasted. Each 70-litre bag provides generous coverage and lasts approximately six months before replacement is needed.
Key Benefits
- Virgin hardwood chips — clean, natural and environmentally friendly
- Highly absorbent — absorbs more moisture than other mulches for a drier run
- Robust 4–32mm chip size — won’t easily break down in the run
- Reduces mud, puddles and unpleasant smells
- Long-lasting — lasts approximately 6 months before replacement
- Versatile — also suitable for pathways, borders, gardens and play areas
- 70-litre bag with free P&P
How to Use
Spread Chicken Chips approximately 5–10cm deep in the run or pen, ideally on top of fixed netting to prevent hens scratching through to bare soil. Turn the chippings over once a month to refresh the surface and aid drainage. Replace with a new covering approximately every 6 months, or sooner if heavily soiled. Used chippings can be composted or used as garden mulch.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Warma Chicken Chips safe for hens?
Yes — Chicken Chips are made from virgin hardwood with no treatments, chemicals or additives, making them safe for use in chicken runs and poultry pens.
How deep should I lay the chips?
A depth of 5–10cm is recommended for best performance. Laying on top of fixed netting will extend the life of the covering and prevent hens from scratching through to bare ground.
How long do they last?
Warma Chicken Chips last approximately 6 months in normal use before a fresh covering is needed. Turning the chips over once a month helps extend their life and keeps the surface fresh.
Can I use these in the coop as well as the run?
Chicken Chips are primarily designed as a run and pen ground covering rather than coop bedding. For inside the coop, a softer bedding such as wood shavings or chopped straw is more suitable.
What can I do with the used chippings?
Used Chicken Chips can be composted or spread as garden mulch. Hardwood chips break down slowly and make an excellent long-term mulch for borders and pathways.
Are they suitable for other uses?
Yes — Warma Chicken Chips are highly versatile and also suitable for garden pathways, borders, play areas and decorative ground cover.
