Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I worm count my chickens?
Regular worm egg counts allow you to monitor the worm burden in your flock without automatically worming. This helps avoid unnecessary use of wormers and reduces the risk of resistance developing. A count tells you whether treatment is actually needed and, if so, which wormers are most appropriate.
Can I test the whole flock with one kit?
Yes — you can submit a mixed flock sample to get an overall picture of the flock's worm burden, or test an individual bird if you have specific concerns about one hen.
How quickly will I get my results?
Westgate Labs aim to process and issue results the same day they receive your sample at the laboratory.
What worms does the test detect?
The test is a worm egg count that detects the eggs of intestinal worms present in the droppings. Common poultry worms include roundworm (Ascaridia galli), hairworm (Capillaria) and tapeworm (though tapeworm eggs are not always detectable via standard egg counts).
Is the packaging eco-friendly?
Yes — Westgate Labs use compostable packaging with a unique zero waste design. The inner liner doubles as the return envelope, minimising waste.
